Billy Thompson Gypsy Style - The Eberle Sessions. The latest CD from Billy Thompson Gypsy Style recorded at Thompsound Music featuring Billy Thompson on Violin, Karen Street on Accordion, Andy Mackenzie on Guitar, Eryl Jones on Guitar and Mandolin and Greg Robley on Bass. Also featuring special guest appearances by John Wheatcroft on Guitar and Ivor Aldred on Harmonica. 14 tracks of Gypsy Jazz classics, fiery Eastern European showstoppers, beautiful ballads and an unexpected cover or two. The violin Billy used on this album (by Thomasso Eberle) used to belong to his late Uncle Russell Thompson who used it throughout his career in the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He always used to tell Billy (and brother Rob) to follow his heart and play the music that meant the most to him. Hence that's why what Billy does! Dolennu Dolennu was and is the project of Warren Greveson and Billy Thompson. Dolennu is the Welsh for Looping. For around 8 years Warren would come round to Billy's studio for weekly rehearsals and ideas sharing. First of all there were the sessions for Warren's Songs from the Grand Massif album featuring Jon Hiseman, but soon came the enormous possibilities that came about when looping began to be discussed... Thus Dolennu was born... There is a further write up here. Billy uses his Zeta midi violin, acoustic violin and baritone (octave) violin going through the Boss RC-300 triple stereo looper blurring the boundaries between his sound and the synthesizers of Warren's high-end Ableton Live triggered loops. They are joined by the expert drumming skills of Steve Roberts. There is a bonus DVD which has visions of the music created by Maurice Lock and Warren Greveson. 'Five huge, sprawling tracks here journey into sonic other worlds in 3Ú4a wholly immersive trip helmed by a collaboration of some of contemporary jazzs most innovative players and interpreters.' In 2006 Thompsound Music released the totally original project that is Amledd with Rhian Thompson (formerly Rhian Williams).
